Photographers and artists everywhere work for distinction and try to separate themselves from the pack.  They refine their tag lines and branding, they set up a template website and fill it with a few of their best ever images.  Then they design and print new marketing material.  More than anything, they seem to copy from each other.For a long time it was respected to say you were a Studio Photographer.  AFter things went digital and the career opened up, photographers added the word professional to their marketing.   From there the world of candid and photojournalistic imagery took over and the introverted camera people took the profession by storm.  Those who could not control a group or set up a shot thrived.

The newest tag line is to say you are a Lifestyle Photographer.  This tag line fits me best.  I take a mix of portraits, I photograph architecture, I capture details and landscapes… I take a little of everything.  More than anything, I take pictures of you being you.  I shoot outdoors and on site year round.  I work to capture the emotions that bring about tears, laughter, breakdowns and the full spectrum of emotions that appear at our photo shoot.  I bring a variety of lenses that allow me perspective.  I shoot with as much natural light as possible, even when shooting indoors.  I am people person and I interact when necessary and then let life happen.

Don’t be fooled by those who claim the Lifestyle Photographer line, look at their websites and see what kind of photographer they really are.  If the kids are posed with props (and often asleep), that is portrait photography.  If that is what you are looking for, fantastic.  If you are looking for a lifestyle photographer, keep looking.
