Whether it is a Portrait Shoot or a Mini Shoot, my style is to roll with whatever happens and make the best of the conditions are present on our shoot day. Some days I show up on site and the weather is not ideal. If it is a Portrait Session (the benefit of these sessions!), I reschedule. If it is a mini shoot we roll with it MOST of the time. Everyone has made the effort to be there and with kids, husbands, and schedules all over the place… it can be a real challenge to reschedule everyone on one day. SO, we shoot. It is only 20 minutes of their time and mine. We do our best to get some good shots and laugh it off. This past weekend we had some of the worst winds I have ever been in. It was a mini shoot day and it started out breezy and ended up tornado style by my second shoot. To late to cancel the first few, I scouted out some alternative locations and did what I could. We went a nearby alley where some wind was being blocked and we made the best of the site. There was lots of squatting and adjusting to get light + wind AND background to be alright. That and manage the attitude of our little friends who were very concerned about the weather. Hair was everywhere and it was definitely a little chilly. When all was said and done the day was a fun challenge.
